On November 8, 2015, the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame awarded the organization’s Youth Achievement Award for 2015 to Abby Broeniman at the organization’s annual meeting in Johnsonville, Wisconsin. A native of Hortonville, Wisconsin, Broeniman is the principal vocalist on Then and Now, a critically-acclaimed album released in August by Music Publishers of America (“MPA”).
Abby has been singing since she was 12 years old with Dorf Kapelle, a highly-regarded band created and directed by her grandfather, Ernie Broeniman. Dorf Kapelle is a family affair, and Abby sings many songs at the band’s events with her grandfather and her father, Sam Broeniman. In addition to involvement with Dorf Kapelle and Music Publishers of America, Abby has performed on the Mollie B Polka Party and in Branson on RFD-TV’s Mollie B Christmas Special.
“Abby has an incredible gift,” stated MPA President Steve Harris. “She does more than simply sing – she delivers from the heart.” Broeniman’s signature song is Snow Waltz, a story about young love. “We are so pleased for Abby and look forward to more projects with her in the future.”
The Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame was formed to recognize and honor those individuals who have excelled in performance, preservation and promotion of polka music in the state of Wisconsin. The organization’s objective is to historically maintain the various ethnic roots of the polka genre for all generations.
